The Kingdom History
Gede was a Swahili town on our own coast, a short drive from this school. Its people welcomed traders from across the Indian Ocean from Arabia, India, and China and traded with them for hundreds of years. They built houses of stone and coral, some with running water, and a large mosque. The town was later left empty, and its ruins still stand in the forest today.
What House GEDE Stands For
Gede is the house of hosts. It opened its doors to the whole ocean and made everyone welcome. House Gede is for students who include others, make newcomers feel at home, and are proud of this coast.
